Archived trip from old website run by pqzx

Are you new to Canberra and looking to find the best local places to train for assaults of higher altitude peaks? Or maybe you've decided 2016 is the year you're going to learn to use crampons so you can get on some transalpine hikes. Either way, come along to our come and try session at ANU.

We'll meet outside the SRA at 4am and go for a summit push of Black Mountain.

You will need to bring:
- 60L backpack
- helmet
- harness
- comfortable walking shoes
- appropriate clothing (layers are good)
- water
- anything else to make your pack weigh at least 15kg
Optional:
- walking poles
- bivy gear

Alternatively, come to the climbing wall (in the SRA building) at 8am and try out pseudo dry-tooling instead. Dry-tooling is climbing rock with ice axes and crampons, a necessary skill for more technical routes or when ice/snow is thin.

Note: If you're really keen to go up Black Mountain at 4am with superfluous weight, please specify this in the comments when you sign up.
