Winter is coming, but its not too late for a high country bushwalk. This weekend come and explore the tranquility of the alpine backcountry on an easy walk to the eastern end of Rams Head range in Koscioszko National Park. Before reaching Perisher Ski Resort, we'll park the cars at Dainers Gap (1640m) on the Kosciuszko Road and walk in a southerly direction around Rainbow Lake to Pretty Point (aka Hunters View). This seldom-visited knoll of about 1800m on the edge of the Rams Head Range has good views of the Thredbo Valley, some 800m below. This walk is suitable for beginners and will be a great chance to spend a day exploring the beautiful Australian Alpine environment without too much effort. The route will cover about 6km, some of it on walking track, through of a mix of open country and snow gum woodland and involves no long arduous climbs. If we are luckily we'll get to walk through gently falling early season snow as its lightly dusts the landscape in a mantle of white. Numbers will be limited by the availability of transport. Overall difficulty: easy. Transport costs: $35- $45. Contact: Taya on 0410 711 358

Take the boardwalk to Rainbow Lake and then walk south cross country to Pretty Point. Go cross country on a loop clockwise towards north (so we stay on the plain) to Moon Rock and return on a loop back to where the cars are parked.
