This year the ANUMC is offering massive subsidies off the course, bringing the price down to $80 for students and $120 for non-students. I've scheduled the course just in time for backcountry skiing/ snowboarding and showshoeing season this year, so you can apply your newly learned skills when it may count.
YOU MUST BE SIGNED UP TO THE TRIP CALENDAR AND THE SNOWSAFETY WEBSITE TO BE CONSIDERED AS ENROLLED IN THE COURSE.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Do you venture out of bounds, off the trails or into the backcountry? An AST 1 course is your place to start.
It is a must for everyone recreating in the backcountry or slackcountry.
| Avalanche Canada sets the global standard for providing avalanche awareness programs. The Avalanche Canada Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST1) Course will provide an entry-level decision-making framework that is based on the most advanced knowledge available. It is suitable for use by people with little experience in entering the side/backcountry. In addition, the course will:

ANUMC SUBSIDY:
The first 16 people registered AND paid for this course will receive a subsidy from ANUMC: Final cost is $80 for students and $120 for non-students.
If you would like to register for the course you need to:
a) Register here as a trip participant - Please identify yourself as a student or a non-student and please tell me how you will contribute back to the club with this training. This is a condition of receiving the ANUMC course subsidy.

LOCATION AND LOGISTICS:
This Course requires you to be in Jindabyne/ Snow Mountains area over the weekend. I am assuming there will be sufficient cars to take people to key locations and this will be confirmed during the pre-trip meeting.
Leave Canberra in morning for 8:30am arrival at Jindabyne for classroom lesson; dinner at Jinadabyne; camp at Island Bend at night, travel to probably Guthega for day 2 lesson.
