Plan
Leave ANU sport at 8am on Sunday, drive to Snake Rock and run through basic abseiling instruction, supervision and practice. The approach is a 15 minute walk, but is fairly steep and involves a river crossing so bring decent shoes. Intent is to finish by 12:30 but can stay longer or leave early.
Participants will need:
- Helmet
- Harness
- Belay device
- 2 locking carabiners
- Climbing shoes (if you want to climb)
- Hand sanitiser
- Lunch/snacks
Trainee Trip Leaders will also need:
- 3rd locking carabiner
- 1 clipgate carabiner
- 120cm x 5mm prusik cord (looped)
- 120cm sling, or PAS, or short safety line
Gear should be picked up from the gearstore prior to the activity. I will take care of group equipment.
Instructions for Trainee Trip Leaders
Be prepared to instruction on:
- Emergency procedures
- Connecting
- Safety checks
- Abseil calls
- Abseiling technique
- Belaying
From Wickerslack lane, walk to white rocks. Trainee Trip Leaders will conduct dry-runs with beginners before attempting actual abseils. At conclusion everyone will return to the cars.
