Trip Overview

This is a women's backcountry trip for those ready to take their next step in the mountains. If you’ve had a taste of touring and are ready to stretch your skills — this one’s for you.

We'll catch the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift in Thredbo, then begin a relaxed ski tour toward Mt Kosciuszko. The plan is to enjoy mellow terrain, take in the alpine views, and share a celebratory lunch at the summit or scenic ridgeline nearby.

Expect a supportive, inclusive vibe (similar to our last trip): we’re here to build each other up and have a great day out. I'm also happy to teach those who are interested in leading their own trips some tips and tricks so we can get more women into the BC.

Who This Trip Is For

✅ Women with at least one day of backcountry experience (no total beginners)

✅ Strong intermediate to advanced resort skiers/riders (at least 15+ days on snow)

✅ Comfortable linking turns on blue runs and descending variable terrain

✅ Physically able to tour for ~4–5 hours with breaks

Gear & Logistics

• Touring gear is required – skis with skins or a splitboard
• You’ll need to organise your own gear hire from the ANUMC gear store or elsewhere
• No pre-trip meeting – we’ll coordinate cars and Qs via a WhatsApp group (link to come once you’ve signed up)
• Each participant will need to buy a $50 Thredbo backcountry access lift pass to access the backcountry via the chairlift.
• Please expect to contribute $50 to whomever drives for park pass, fuel (or electricity) and maintenance/cleaning.

What to Expect

Early start from Canberra, with carpooling arranged via WhatsApp

Kosciuszko Express Chairlift up (~9:00 AM start from Eagles Nest)

Tour toward Mt Kosciuszko at a relaxed pace

Stops for snacks, photos, gear checks, and lunch at or near the summit

Hopefully warm spring conditions and some slushy corn snow!

Cruise back to Thredbo in the afternoon

Arrive back in Canberra around 7:00 PM
